Tires: Tire size and Ply, gross axle weight, gawr

Question
I have a 18' trailer for hauling my tractor and such. When I bought it used, it had P215/75R15 Radial Plt Tubeless tires on it. What type tires and ply should I put on it to get the best performance out of the tire. I want something to hold the trailer up and not look like they are low all of the time.

Answer
Tony,

The first step is to weigh the trailer with everything on it that you can think of that could ever possibly be on it when you tow.  It is almost imperative you do this axle by axle and recommended if you can get each tire position separately.

The next step is to look up the specs for ST tires and select a tire size that is at least a 10% over that (per tire) and preferably 15%.

You might also check to see if the trailer has a sticker or a label that indicates the load carrying capacity of the trailer.  If the words "GAWR" (Gross Axle Weight Rating) are on that label, then that will help determine what the capacity of the trailer.

Do that and post back if you need additional help.
