Tires: tire size, oldsmobile alero, tire place

Question
good day,
ok heres my question,

my girlfriends car (oldsmobile alero sedan)got a flat and we got a used tire. but the messed up thing is that it had different sizes. the tire place pointed this out to me (bad me for not noticing myself, im not that car dumb)
anyway,

back tire 225/55/R16
front driver 225/50/R16 passenger 225/55/R16

the guy said it should be fine like that, maybe faster wear but no big problem. but now she says sometimes the front end is making a small noise (she thinks from the front driver side) when on the highway and turning. she says the whell has no shake and the car doesnt pull either.

do you think that odd tire could be causing the noise, also is it bad for the drivetrain being front wheel drive to have the odd tire size?

thanks for your time and help,
sorry for the long question.
Jay

Answer
Jay,

No, I don't think the noise is related to the odd tire.

It isn't a good idea, though to have odd tires on a vehicle.  Under emergency manuevers, cars tend to pivot around odd tires.  Lossing control of a vehicle when it could have been prevented is something we should all try to avoid.
