Tires: 2000 Ford Focus, emergency brake, ford focus

Question
My back tires locked up on me today. They would not go forward or backwards. Why did this happen, and what do you think is wrong with my car? Thank-you for your time!

Answer
Rhonda,

Was the vehicle parked?  If so, the emergency brake probably froze in position and would not release.  Wait for the temperature to warm up and the brake should release - OR - you can try rocking the car back and forth.  That sometimes works.  And then discontinue using the e brake until it warms up permanently.

If it happens when the vehicle was moving, then a wheel bearing probably failed.  That needs to be addressed NOW!!  Take the car to a shop and get the bearing replaced.  This would be an accident waiting to happen!
