Tires: Tire rotation method for 2002 Acura MDX, tire rotation pattern, wheel drive vehicles

Question
The dealer always rotated my original Michelins front to back only--they lasted 55,000 miles and still had some tread before getting to the wear bars. I just rotated my NEW Michelin Cross Terrains and the retailer said they should be "x"ed. I said no, do front to back but am wondering--which is correct, or doesn't it matter so  long as you stay with the same method?
Thanks

Answer
The preferred tire rotation pattern for;

Rear and 4 wheel drive:
RF to LR
LF to RR
RR to RF
LR to LF

Front wheel drive vehicles:

LF to LR
RF to RR
LR to RF
RR to LF

LF = left front
RF = right front
LR = left rear
RR = right rear

The X pattern is the alternative for Rear and 4 wheel drive.
The front to back, back to front is the alternative for front wheel drive.
