Tires: tire noise from new tires, cv joints, bf goodrich

Question
QUESTION: My '96 Saab has about 110K miles.  At 70K, I replaced the second set of tires with 4 new Yokohamas.  I noticed that the new tires made a lot of noise on all surfaces- low rumble to high rumble, depending on speed.  The noise increased as speed increased and decreased if I turn the wheel to the left to change lanes.  The mechanic said it was the CV boot, and even after the repair, the noise didn't go away.  He said that it was probably the tires.  I recently replaced all four tires again w/ BF Goodrich, and I still have the noise.  Is this an issue with the bearings?

ANSWER: Phil,

Duuuude:

Too many variables.  Tire do make noise, and noise is not a bad thing.  It might mean wet grip.

So who cares if a Saab makes noise - it's a sporty car, not a luxury car.

But the noise might be CV joints - and given the mileage, it is about time!

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: I don't think it's the tires (wet grip) as this is the second set of DIFFERENT tires to make noise.  The CV joint was also repaired after the first set of noisy tires, and that didn't reduce the noise.  This second set of new tires is equally rumbly.

Answer
Phil,

Each FWD car has 2 CV joints, so unless you changed both, change the other one.

If you've changed both, then I don't know what it is as it appears not to be the 2 obvious things.  This would require someone to hear the noise to identify what it might be.
