Tires: Replacing one tire, cooper tires, break pads

Question
Hi, I currently have my 2003 Honda Accord being fixed. It needs new rotors and
break pads but also one of the front tires is worn and needs to be replaced.
PepBoys has told me it is ok to replace only that tire because the other three are
in great shape. The tires on the car right now are Cooper. They don't carry
Cooper tires, but have assured me that it is ok to replace that tire with the same
tire of a different brand. Is that correct??

Answer
Leslie,

This is a matter of degree, rather than kind.

Having an odd tire tends to make the vehicle pivot around the odd tire in emergency situations.  But since most of the time, folks don't encounter "emergency situations", they don't experience this pivoting.

I tend to think that I don't want to have a vehicle that might tend to pivot, but I can understand the financial aspect of the decision.
