Tires: Changing tire size on my Tahoe, 17 rims, tire failure

I have a 2004 Tahoe 2WD.  My tire size is 265/70/17.  A friend of mine just took some tires off of his Chevy truck and I was wondering if I could use them for my Tahoe.  The size of his tires are 260/70/16.  Thank You so much for your time!!

First you have 17" rims, so you can't put 16" tires on them.

But if you are asking if you can change the tires AND rims - well, that would be going down in load carrying capacity and that increases your risk of a tire failure - and on an SUV, that is not good.
