Tires: tire noise, cv joints, wheel bearings

Question
Hey Barry,

My '01 civic has michelin destinys with aprox,50,000 service miles on them and 4-3/32s tread life remaining. Recently I've noticed a noise coming from the front end,a dull or mild rumbling that is relative to road speed(but not engine speed). I rotated the tires but the noise is still there.

My question is, do tires become noisier with wear or should i be considering the wheel bearings as the culprit?

thanx, steve

Answer
Steve,

Tires will develop noise as time goes on, especially if there is misalignment to the vehicle and the tires sren't rotated regularly.

But the noise should have moved when you rotated tires if the problems was the tires.

I suspect CV joints.
