Tires: changing tires, auto recycling, bmw 320i

Question
I have bmw 320i my front and back wheels size is 205/50/r16
but just got a flat tire at the back and replace it with 205/55/16 for the meantime but im running 140km at 1hr and 30mins going home what is the effect of this wheel in my engine and overall system of my car.

Answer
Glenn,

I am assuming that this is not an AWD (I'm not that familiar with BMW's to be sure) and if that is the case, then the only problem is that the differential will have worked much harder during the time frame it was in that position.  This would have caused excessive wear, and will result in an early failure.  However, since differentials usually aren't the thing that results in a car being sent to the junkyard....er....auto recycling center....then this is probsbly nothing to worry about.  However, this should not be a permanent situation as there are some handling issues that could come up that will cause the vehicle to behave irratically just when you don't want it to.  Not to mention the long term affect on the differential.
