Tires: new tires, oe tire size, 2004 chevy tahoe

Question
The OE on my 2004 Chevy Tahoe LT 4x4 was a 265/70/16 with recommended pressure in my door jam of 35psi. My new tires are Nitto Terra Grapplers size LT265/75/16 with a max pressure of 65psi. What should I inflate to?

Answer
Charles,

The key bit of information you didn't give me was that the OE tire size had a "P" in front of the numbers.  These types of tires are called "P metric".  The Nitto's are sized in what is called "LT metric".  These tires have different load/inflation characteristics.

Hopefully this will now makes sense - you need 42 psi in the Nitto's to carry the same load.
