Tires: tire size, honda cr v, discount tire

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2002 Honda CR-V.  Tire size 205 70R14.  I would like to replace them with something comparable to 215 65R16 tires using my 15" rims.  What 15" tire would give me the same size as the 215 65R16 tires.

Thank you.

Alan

ANSWER: Alan,

There are some things that just don't make sense to me:

1)  The original tire size was P205/70R15 - not 14.  I'm going to assume that is a typo.

2)  A P205/70R15 is the equivalent (as close as possible) to a P215/65R16.

I am missing something?

QUESTION: That was supposed to be 205/70R15 - sorry.  I don't think you are missing anything about my question.

I know the newer CR-V's prior to 2007 went to the 215/65R16 tires and I was just looking for something to fill up my wheel well a bit more.  It seems to me that the 215/65R16 tire is a bit bigger (thus filling up the wheel well) and I was just looking for something equivalent in a 15" tire.  You are sure that those two sizes are similar?  Is there something that is just a tad bigger (fuller for the wheel well) for this car?

Thank you.

Alan

Answer
Alan,

The P215/65R16 is ever so slightly bigger, but it is the closest match to the P215/70R15.

As far as a larger tire:  Anything larger is going to add error to your speedometer, plus I'm not going to be able to tell you if it will rub because I need to know how big the fenderwells are on your vehicle.  The folks that measure that sort of thing think the information gives them a competitive advantage, so they don’t share.

I suggest you contact Discount Tire or Tire Rack.  They both do those sorts of measurements.
