Tires: tire replacement, pirelli tire, convertible mercedes

Question
I have a 1981 380sl convertible Mercedes. I had to replace the front right tire. It was a 14" Michelin, but as I understand they now longer make that tire. So I replaced it with a 14" Pirelli tire. Should I replace the front left tire for safety reasons to match up grip and tread? Or even should I match up all four tires? Need some professional advice, Thanks Brent

Answer
Brent,

It is always best to have 4 tires of the same make model and state of wear.

Next best is 2 pairs of similar tires with the least worn tires in the rear.

Next best would be 2 pairs with the lower speed rating in the front - and hopefully those are also the most worn.

Last is anything else - under heavy braking, vehicles tend to pivot around the odd tire.
