Tires: Noise tires, chevy express, rear tires

Question
I HAVE 2000 CHEVY EXPRESS 2500 VAN. I HAD THE NEW TIRES ROTATED AT 9K. I DID NOT NOTICE ANY SOUNDS IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE ROTATION. NOW 3000 MILES AFTER THE ROTATION I HAVE A HUMMING SOUND. THE PSI IS CORRECT. I DID NOTICE THAT THE FRONT TIRES THAT ARE NOW ON THE BACK HAD WORN (UNEVENLY) MORE ON THE OUTSIDE. HOW CAN I GET ELIMINATE THIS SOUND

Answer
Joe,

Since this is a RWD, the rear tires will tend to wear in the centers and the front tires will tend to wear on the shoulders and if the alignment is out, the fronts will tend to wear more on one shoulder than the other.

But this should not cause a noise - unless there is uneven wear circumferentially - which is a possibility - but it is also possible that the noise is coming from something other than the tires.

So to confirm that the tires are causing the noise, do a rotation.  The noise should move.  If it doesn't then the noise is not tires and you need to look at something else.

If the noise moves, then you need to get an alignment and then wait until a new pattern has been worn into the tires - whcih could take 1,000's of miles.  Or you could replace the tires.
