Tires: GMC 16 rims, bf goodrich, sierra 4x4

Question
I have a 1999 Sierra 4x4, which my daughter just wrecked and ruined one of the rims.  We currently have BF Goodrich AT T/A LT 285/75R16 on it.  I was going to purchse a new rim, but they run $558 from the dealer.  I found rims and tires for sale on craigslist.  Tires are 255/70R16.  I have no intention of keeping the tires, but can I use those rims as a replacement for my wrecked one?  It'll save me $533 if I can.

Answer
Dan,

The answer is "maybe!"

Look for the placard on your vehicle.  It will be on the driver's doorpost.  It will list the original tire size and the proper pressure for that size.  I'll bet it will also list the rim size.

I suspect the truck may have come with P metric tires (the size starts with the letter "P") and if it did, then it is probably OK.  But to be sure, you need to count the number of lug nuts and compare.  Plus it would be good if you took one of the rims off and compare the numbers on the back.

But if the placard says the truck came with "LT"'s, then the answer is "NO!".
