Tires: replacing extra load tyres, doorpost, seat alhambra

Question
The tyres on my Seat Alhambra (225/45 17R 94W exta load) are due for replacement after 21,000 miles. The current tyres are michelin but they are very expensive, is there an alternative, and do I have to have extra load ones? (recommended PSI is about 48)   Thank you

Answer
Pat,

The first thing to do is to find your vehicle placard.  The placard will list the original tire size and the proper pressure for that size.  Placards are usually located on a doorpost or in the glovebox.

Assuming that it says 225/45R17 94W XL, then you have to use Extra Load tires - and this is such a popluar size that any alternative is going to be even more expensive.
