Tires: tire life, alignment problem, fwd cars

Question
My sons 03 cavalier has 8000 miles on the tires. I just noticed the front tires are very very worn. The back are fine and you can see Lincoln's head clearly.(the old test as we know it to be).Anyway, had the car alligned about 3000 miles ago. The tires are worn what to me seems a normal wear pattern. Not the inside or outside, the total tire is worn. Although they will be rotated this week, I wonder why they wore this way. He swears his car cant
"butn out", so I dont think it is a matter of that. (God knows I went through tires back in the early 70's with my GTO, but back then it was the rear tires) Anyway, your thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Answer
Ronn,

If you had an alignment problem, then that could account for the rapid wear.

But there are a couple of other things that you might be interested in.

FWD cars wear their front tire 2 1/2 times faster than the rear.

It is always possible to do burnouts - it's just a matter of getting the tires to unload - which on a FWD can occur on cornering.

But I'll bet now that you've "mentioned" the wear, it will magically get better.
