Tires: tire substitute, michelin goodyear, continental tires

Question
I recently purchased a motorhome with continental tires on it which are difficult to find.  They are 8 ply rating.  The front size is 195/65R16C and the rear is 215/65R16C.  Load rating is 1985/2419 front to rear.  GVWR is 7275 lbs.  Can I substitute a more popular brand (Michelin, Goodyear, etc) without compromising fuel economy or handling?

Answer
Melvin,

You have to be incredibly careful when replacing these tires.  The Europeans tend to use much smaller tires (dimensionally) than in the US for their motorhomes and trailers.

Pay particular attention to the Load Index.  DO NOT - let me repeat that - DO NOT let anyone talk you into a tire that has a lower Load Index.  This is a matter of safety!!!

But if you can find a tire in the proper size with the proper Load Index, then it will be OK to use.  However, I can not tell you if the fuel economy will change or not.  These types of things aren't usually published.
