Tires: Will going from a P to LT help me, michelin ltx m s, inflation pressure

Question
I have a 95 G20 high-top conversion van. I have P235/75R15 Michelin LTX M/S on it now and run them at the max 41 PSI. I want to get something more aggressive as it really stinks in any snow. I am hoping to also help the sway of it a little. I had a couple extra leafs put in the rear a few years ago and that helped. I am worried that If I go away from Michelin to get more aggressive and hopefully save a little $ that I'll end up with some really loose sidewall. Could I get an aggressive tire and go XL or LT and be satisfied? I am worried that most of the LT have a lower max load. Why is that and would it help or hinder me.
I know there is like 5 questions burried in here. Sorry. I did look at the last 3.5 years of answers!

Answer
Joe,

First, you have XL tires now and I suspect you absolutely need them to carry the load.

I think you'll find that aggressive - in terms of tread design - does not translate into stiffer sidewall.  BTW most sidewall stiffness comes from inflation pressure - and in this case I think a few more psi might be good.  Try 44 or 45, even if the sidewall says 41 psi.  Note:  If it says 41 psi on the sidewall, it won't say this is a maximum.

And I would stick with the XL's - 108 Load Index

Why do LT's have a lower max load?  Long, complicated explanation but the bottom line is you would need to run 50 psi and your rims probably aren't up to it.

And last, but not least.  Don't expect a van - especially a High-top - to handle like a car.  Sawying is just what they do.
