Tires: size, rim width, carrying capacity

Question
My old 64 Pontiac has P215/75R15's.
My 96 Taurus has P205/65R15's.
I took the tires off the Taurus and replaced with winters. Can I put them on the Pontiac?

Answer
Barry,

You didn't tell me what model of '64 Pontiac you have, so I can't tell you if the rim width is appropriate or even if there is enough load carrying capacity.

But you should be aware that a lot of information has come out about old tires.  Some folks say to remove tires when they reach 6 years old - and some say 10 years.  My take on the difference is whether they are discussing the affect of ambient temperature.  A place like Phoenix would be on the lower end.

So I suggest you factor that into your consideration as well as the load carrying capacity and rim width.
