Tires: new tire weight, lighter better?, tire weight, educated guess

Question
Barry, in deciding between 2 similar tires, one weighs 3lbs less each.  Will that weight difference have any significance? Both are premium all season tires.

I suspect that these tires are not equivalent in some area.  At the very least it will be fuel economy, with the lighter tire being more fuel efficient.  But more likely, there is some other property that is different and an educated guess would be speed rating - and higher speed rated tires are safer.
