Tires: Bolt pattern, wheel nuts, toyota celica

Question
Please explain the bolt pattern of wheels. I see it is shown as 4X114 or 5X110. But when I measure the mags on my 1989 Toyota Celica GTS, it has 5 bolts and is 6 cm between the wheel nuts. Please advise. Also, for a FWD car, it is okay to put wider tires than recommended? My Celica is rated for 205/60/14. Can I put 225/60/14? What about having more offset? Does it hurt handling or extra load on wheel bearing, etc?

Answer
Simon,

Obviously the "4" in a "4 X 114mm" is the number of lugs.  the 114 mm is the diameter of the circle for centerline of the lugs.

You can put wider tires on a car, but there might be fitment problems - not to mention the speedometer.  This is something you'll have to do with a tire dealer.  They have the chart that shows what fits, and what doesn't.
