Tires: Tire Noise, bridgestone duelers, gm part number

Question
I have a 2003 Vue.  When I bought the car and until I needed new tires, the ride was very quiet.  When I needed new tires, I got Discount Tire to put them on.  They put on Bridgestone Duelers.  The road noise was very loud. So I took it back (after I had a front end alignment as suggested) and they put on Yokohamas.  Still loud road noise.  It is very distracting and annoying.  What is wrong?  And do you know the original tire for the Vue?

Answer
Ann,

The obvious answer is that the tires are the problem, but in a lot of respects, this does not make sense.  A change in tires should not go from very quiet to very loud and annoying.  So it just might be something else.

The original tires on the vehicle were dependent on the original tire size, but my best guess is that they were Bridgestone Dueler HT's.  Note the entire name.  It is common for tire names to have suffixes that delinate different characteristics.  I would either check with GM's 800 number or call a GM dealer.

But all tires from General Motors have TPC numbers (Tire Performance Criteria) and that ought to be stamped on the sidewall.  Both GM and the GM dealer ought to fill in some of the blanks, but most importantly, the GM dealer ought to be able to give you a GM part number - the tire is required to be available for 3 years after production.
