Tires: Tire vibration, pontiac vibe, tire vibration

Question
right Barry, that is my first time to have rotation, I notice the front tire is pretty bad, so I had them rotated the rear tire to the front, that is when the noise started. I have 49K miles on it.
I think you are right about rotating it and do a balance and Alignment. that might help.

beside I think the unexpereince (toyshop) precision Tune . just making up excauses about my tire rod and wheel bearing.
right now my car drives great and the steeling is great.  haven't notice any vibration but just tire noise, probably cause the front tire, it is pretty bad.

Thanks for helping and appreciated that if you could give me some more tips.
P.S. : I'm using the performance tire ( 205 55 16)right now and they are really expensive. is there a way I could change to a cheaper tire ? I have a pontiac vibe base.

Hi
I have a 04 pontiac vibe, recently I just had it for a routin oil change and rotation. when I get back my car the vibration had started, it was vibrating and making rubbering noise. edventually I took it back to the autoshop and they had put back the front tire back to the front. the noise had disappear since. I ask them what would cause that noise to put that back tire in front, They don;t have a clue but told me it could be the bearing is bad or the tire rod is bend. But I had my car brand new and only for 2 years, never been in accident ? beside I still have the extendent warantee, Do you think the dealership will look into it and cover the replacment if needed ?

Thank you

Joe,

It's a little unclear, but tires are supposed to rotated every 5,000 to 8,0000 miles and it sounds like this was the first time.

Aside from the fact that this vehicle is known to chew up rear tires, especially if the vehicle's alignment is not just about perfect, leaving tires on the rear for a long period of time is a guarrantee they will develop irregular wear.

Tire wear is not covered by warranty.  Alignment is not covered by warranty.  I'm afraid that the dealer just may not be able to cover any replacements - unless he does something outside of the warranty and wants to keep your business - and he would want to do that since you've had all your maintenance done at his shop.

Answer
Joe,

Here's the situation now.

You have a tire that is irregularly worn, and it is mounted in the position that causes the irregular wear, but doesn't cause a vibration.  That means the tire is going to get more rapidly irregular and fairly soon will wear into the casing - very bad.

So while moving the tire to the front will cause a vibration, it will extend the overall life of the set.

Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of lower speed ratings, and I don't recomend you go there.
