Tires: Mag wheels for AMC Ambassador, ford rims, bolt pattern

Question
Hi.  I'm not sure if this question is within your area of expertise or not.  I have a 1968 AMC Ambassador DPL with a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern.  I have a set of mags and tires from a 1973 T-Bird that have the same bolt pattern.  I'd like to put them on the AMC, but the center hole is considerably bigger on the Ford rims than on the AMC rims.  Can I safely use these or modify them so I can use them?  Thanks for your time.

Answer
My books don't go back that far, but if I remember correctly, the bolt patterns for Ford, Chrysler, and AMC were the same - so no alarms are going off in my head.

It is not necessary to have the center hole match up - except it can't be too small.  The clamping force of the nuts and studs is what holds the rim on.

The only problem you might have is that you may get a vibration from the rim not being highly centered on the hub.
