Tires: changing tire size, gm truck, size tire

I own a 2003 avalanche with 265/70/17inch tires on it. I was wanting to know if i could or how i would find out if i can go to a 285 70/17inch size tire without any problems ?

Your question is very fresh to me because it was asked by a customer of mine the other day and yes you can change to that size. I wasn't sure so I called a friend of mine at a local GM Truck dealership and he said that you can go up to the 285/70/17. He said the speedometer will be off by a 4-6 miles per hour(it will show slower than your going), but other than that it should be okay. Hope this helps.
