Tires: confused, turanza, giii

Question
Thanks for calling your friend at Bridgestone. I realise that you're doing your best to help me out in my decision making.
According to the Bridgestone website, both tyres are a performance line, the GIII being ultra high performance while the ER-60 being high performance because of which I have my doubts of this particular model of the Turanza being a touring line. That being said, would you be able to comment on some performance characteristics of the two and what makes them apart?
I'm looking for something that delivers a comfortable ride, good grip levels and will last.

Hi again Andrew,

I was unable to locate Potenza GIII and the Turanza ER-60 on the Bridgestone(USA) website.
I reside in India and Bridgestone has very recently introduced the Turanza ER-60.
After numerous discussions on forums, it appears that the GIII's (ultra high performance) are preferred to most other models of 'stones, perhaps, one of the reasons being that the ER-60's (high performance) have not been in the market long enough. There is also argument that there is no match to the GIII's performance in terms of traction and cornering grip, both in dry and wet conditions.
Is your recommendation of the Turanza based on the LS-H model? Would you be able to comment specifically about the ER-60 which is all I am concerned with?

I am confused at this moment.

Hi again!   :)

You will not find the GIII or the ER60 anywhere else except for India and Asia they will not be on the America's website, they are not made for North America. You're right about what I am basing my recommendation on....from everything that I have looked at the Turanza LS-H is the same or very close to the ER60 and the GIII is very close to Potenza RE960 Pole Position. I called a friend of mine that works at the Bridgestone America's headquarters and asked her if she had any info on either of the tires your inquiring about and she had never heard of them. She explained that global companies do this all of the time and only change parts of the name even though the basic core part of the tire is the same.

As far as comparision, the exact opposite has happened here with the LS-H being out for about 4 years and the RE960 has been out for only about 9 months. If you are wanting an aggressive high performance tire then go with the GIII but if your wanting a slightly better ride and only a slight difference in performance go with the ER60.

Hope this helps!

Andrew ;)

Answer
Well, I'll try to help but I can only answer what I know and like I've said I know nothing about these tires because they are not available over here. But, the LS-H and the RE960 are over here and all I can tell you is what I know about them. Both are great tires....the RE960 is a pure ultra high performance tire and the LS-H is a touring tire. The RE960 will not last as long as the LS-H but will out handle it in sharp cornering at higher speeds(80mph+)and will not give you as good of a ride. Based on what you have told me I would go with with the LS-H/ER60. If you want a smoother ride, good mileage and good traction I believe that is going to be the better tire for you.

Good Luck!
Andrew
