Tires: Wheel Size, high performance tires, rim diameter

Question
I am going to buy a new Honda Accord.  Various models cone with 15,16, and 17inch wheels. Can you tell me how the wheel size affects the drivability of the car?
Thanks,
George

Answer
George,

Assuming the overall diameter of the tire is the same (and they generally are) and everything else being equal (which they generally aren't), going up in rim diameter is going to improve dry handling, and adversely affect fuel economy, ride harshness, hydroplaning resistance, and snow traction and have no effect on tire wear, and tire durability.

However, most vehicles that come with larger rim diameters also use a more high performance tire on the larger rim diameter and, generally, high performance tires don't ride as well, don't have good fuel economy, but offer a significant improvement in wet and dry traction.

Hope this helps.
