Tires: truck tires, michelin ltx, bridgestone dueler a t

Question
I need to purchase a set of tires for my 2001 GMC 1500 Sierra - 4X2 long bed extended cab - the 2 tire sizes that are listed are 235/75r/16 (which are currently on the truck) and 255/70r/16. After shopping around I have found that most tires are in the $100 range and then I dropped by Walmart and found a UNiroyal Liberator for 78.22. Always the skeptic, is there a need for concern with this tire and what size would you recommend? Thanks,Cliff

Answer
Hi Cliff!
Well....here is my opinion for what its worth, you by stuff for your house and for your use at Wal-Mart, you need to purchase tires from a tire professional that knows the product and will show you how to take care of them and has a nationwide warranty. Wal-Mart sells low quality tires at a cheap price as a draw to the consumer for "one-stop" shopping. My advice would be to check at places like Goodyear Svc Centers, Firestone Svc Centers, Sears, places like that so you have quality service and a good quality tire. Sure you may pay more, but look at it like this, your tires are the most important thing on your car. They are what transfers all energy from your 3,000 lbs vehicle to the road. You can cut costs all over any vehicle, but tires are one of the things that should not be sacrificed. As far as sizing goes I would use 255/70/16 and as far as tires the best tire out there is the Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza(for street) or the Bridgestone Dueler A/T(for all terrain use), the Michelin LTX is a fine tire also. Check the web site TireRack.com, there you will fine all kinds of info on the tires as well as rating posted by consumers who have intalled them(good and bad comments). Do your homework and learn as much as you can before buying. If you have any other questions feel free to let me know!
