Tires: Auto Tire Pressure, independent mechanic, psi max

Question
Wow, you answered quick.  At 41 psi the BMW recommended tire pressure is 6 psi greater than the tires max pressure rating of 35, at least on the tires that have been suggested.  Is it critical to keep the differential between the front of 33 and 41 , or is it OK to keep the front a 33 and the rear at the tire max of 35?

For my BMW 5251 1995 sedan the owner's manual recommends tire pressure of 33 front and 41 rear. However, the current tires, and those being suggested  by the tire shop as a replacement, show a maximmun presure of 35. The current tires (Pirelli Cinturato P300 M+S) wore quickly and unevenly in the front. I've had the alignment checked several times (though I've been told there there is limited adjustments that can be made)  - I was given the printout showing everything is within the proper ranges, and there is no work recommended for the suspension by my reputable BMW independent mechanic.  Can it be the lack of pressure in the rear tires?

Lee, It depends on how the tires wore. If it was on the outside edges then thats from not having enough air pressure. If in the center to much air. It is best to use what the owner's manual recommends.

Answer
It sounds like you don't have the right speed rated tire on your BMW.  Most BMW's have a Z speed rating.  It's a high performance tire that takes more pressure. 45 psi max.
BMW is very sensitive to the type tire called for. They setup the suspenstion based on the OE tire type. A lot of people buy BMW's and when the tires wear out they replace them with lower speed rated tires because they are cheaper.
