Tires: wide track sl, tire identification number, sales pitches

Question
hi..i am looking into the safety rating of Wide Track SL tires. i had them put on the other day after being assured they are safe. no company name is on the sidewall, which i found to be kinda funny.  they are traction A temp B. however, how can i find out who makes them, and how can i also find out how safe they really are? i tried to do a search but all it gives are sales pitches for tires. thanks!

Answer
First, I'm not sure what you may mean by "safety rating".  All tires sold in the US gave to pass a serires of government tests.  You know they did by the use of the ltters "DOT" on the sidewall.  Other countries have similar standards, but different markings.

Second, you can tell who made the tire by the TIN (Tire Identification Number), sometimes called the serial number or DOT number, which is a 10 to 12 digit number adjacent to the letters "DOT".  The first 2 digits are the manufacturing plant.  The number might be on the sidewall that is facing towards the inside of the vehicle, but every tire will have one.

So, get the TIN, and then tell me why you are interested in the "safety rating".  Did something happen?
