Tires: Different brands and PSI, 1996 infiniti g20, dunlop tires

Question
I recently purchased new tires for my 1996 Infiniti G20.  The salesman convinced me to purchase Dunlop tires which I didn't realize has a psi of 35.  The other 2 tires are Goodyear 45 psi.  Is this OK or should I have asked for two Goodyear to match?  There was a promotion on the Dunlops and I'm afraid I was steered in the wrong direction if they were recieving bonus for selling these.  I don't know anything about tires so took their word.  Thanks.

Answer
Maura,

Obviously the best situation is to have 4 of the same tires, and usually if you don't it's because someone forgot to rotate their tires.  This is especially important on a Front Wheel Drive vehicle as the front tires wear about 2 1/2 times as fast as the rears.

Hopefully, they put the new tires on the rear - the safest way to do this.  If not, get the new tires on the rear.  Unless the new tires have a lower speed rating - in which case you really need to get 2 more of the same.

But the difference in what is written on the sidewall is not nearly as important as the items I mentioned above because the difference is most likely the way in which the tire manufacturers interpret the government regulations.

Hope this helps.
