Tires: TIRE sealant, tire sealant, tire sealants

Question
Is non-flammble tire sealant ok to use in an emergency? Will it ruin the tire for long term use. What should be done to the tire after its used.

Answer
Non-flammable tire sealants are OK for emergency use.  However, the reason for the tire leak should be fixed ASAP - hours and days, not weeks and months.  Failure to do so may cause pressurized air to enter the casing of the tire, weakening the structure and eventually causing a failure.  We tire engineers call this "intra casing pressurization".

Some folks refuse to repair a tire after the use of the sealant - partially because it causes a mess to work with, and partially because they've seen too many tires where the sealant has been used as a permanent solution (that didn't work), and the repair shop had to foot the bill when the tire failed later.

Hope this helps.
