Tires: tire sizes, wet traction, tire sizes

Question
I drive a Toyota 4 wheel drive Tundra. My tires are wearing and will have to be replaced B/4 winter. The tire size now is 265/70-16.I have changed springs to increase clearance.I know a 275/70 is a larger tire but I'm not sure the difference between 265-275-285 and 70-75.I'm going to go to a larger tire. Will I suffer for this?

Answer
Russ,

Here's a calculator to help you with the diameter.

http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp

1)  For every 10% increase in diameter, you reduce the effective gearing to the contact patch by 10%, making the vehicle accelerate slower.

2)  The larger you go, the worse the ride.

3)  Generaly the larger the tire, the better the traction, but at some point it starts to reverse itself, especially for wet traction.

Hope this helps.
