Can I safely switch from 205/60-16 OEM tire size to 215/55-16 tire size. If not, do you have any recommendation . I plan to have tires & wheels matched up, so I can't second guess this one.

There are really 3 questions here:

1)  Is there enough load capacity?  

A P215/55R16 has the same load capacity as a P205/60R16.

2)  Is the rim wide enough?  

A P215/55R16 requires a 6 to 7 1/2" wide rim, and your vehicle has 6 1/2".

3)  Is there enough room in the fenderwell for the tire.

Unfortunately, there isn't a book that lists this information for all the vehicles made.  So you are in the best position to answer this question.  Remember the worst condition is fully compressed, fully turned.

OR

You could find a web site or an on-line club devoted to your vehicle and hope someone there has already done this.
