Tires: Tire Wear, radial tires, rear tires

Question
I have a 96 Bronco with 30x9.50 Toyo all terrains on it. The rear tires have severe wear on the inner and outer edges. I keep the pressure at 35 psi. The front tires were showing the same wear pattern and I changed the shocks which seem to have slowed it.
Could the shocks be causing the same problem on the rear? Everywhere I go I get a different answer after they try to sell me new tires.

Thank you..

Answer
Jim,

First, the tires you have on the Bronco are too small.  You need at least a 31X10.50R15LT at 40 psi.  That is at least some of the problem.

And you should be aware that once a wear pattern starts, it is difficult to get it back to where it is wearing even again (Think about trying to add rubber back onto the tire - impossible!)

I would check the alignment.  IMHO vehicle manufacturer's alignment tolerances are too wide by half.  This is especially true for toe in.  Modern radial tires do not like to be more than 1/32nd of an inch off the nominal value PER SIDE (That's 0.06 degrees)

Hope this helps.
