Tires: Roaring Tires, mitsubishi montero sport, goodyear wrangler rt

Question
I recently purchased a 1999 Mitsubishi Montero Sport (58000 miles at time of purchase)equipped with Goodyear Tracker Radial Tires.  The treads give the tire a new appearance, but the ride is very rough.(I attributed the rough ride to the fact the vehicle is an SUV with a little age on it.)  After driving approximately 6000 miles, I had the tires rotated.  The gentleman who rotated the tires told me that 2 of the tires have worn belts, the tires are wearing irregularly, and my riding experience will only get "bumpier". In other words, I can continue with these tires, but they will only get worse. I've noticed in the last 3-4 weeks a periodic roaring noise, similar to the sound when you drive over speed breakers.  I've also noticed this occurs at lower speeds, say 25-45 mph, rather than at interstate speed.  I figure the purchase of a set of tires is inevitable, but I wanted to check with you to see if I should even be driving with these tires.  Also, if you have recommendations for tires to purchase, I will appreciate that information.
Thank you for any help you may provide, and I truly appreciate your time.

Answer
Lori,

Goodyear makes some good SUV tires, but the ones you purchased are junk.  The roaring noise you're hearing is the tires being unevenly worn.  This is caused by your alignment being out.  I would suggest buying a new set of tires, Goodyear Wrangler RT/S or Michelin LTX M+S, have them check your alignment and suspension for any worn parts.  Also, have them check the brakes to make sure the rotors aren't warped and making that noise.  If you buy 4 michelin tires this month, Michelin is offering customers a $50 rebate by mail.  I think Goodyear is doing the same threw there corporate stores.  If you can't get any good tire prices, contact me threw this and I can wholesale you tires threw my store and UPS them out to you.  A tire dealer near your home could mount and balance them for you.  Best of luck.
