Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: Tires, kz1100, fair weather

Question
I have a 1982 KZ1100 Spectre and have tires on it that were made the 21st week of 2007, was wondering when tires should be replaced to keep bike safe, they only have @1000 miles and show no signs of cracking.

Answer
Experts would recommend replacing the tires on that type of bike when they're four years old. For other types of bikes the recommendations are two or three years.

However, I understand that few riders are eager to shell out $200-400 for new tires when the old ones appear to have plenty of life left!

If money's no object, replace them. If you're a fair-weather rider trying to squeeze another year out of them, you can probably do so, but old, hard tires place an additional risk on motorcycle riding that many riders are not willing to take. If your travels will ever take you through cold weather or rain, probably best to replace them.
