Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: Scooter for camping, wheel camper, 50cc scooter

Question
Pat,
I am looking for a scooter to take camping with us. I would mount it on a rack on the rear of my 5th wheel camper.
My question is, I am looking a Kymco 125cc and a 150cc.
Between me and my wife our combined wieght is about 350#.
I don't expect to cruise at 60 mph, but would like to at least get up to 45 mph on the highway. It will be used to scoot around the campground, ride to the store, or near by site seeing.
Any recommendations on which size I need?
Thanks for taking your time to vollunteer.

Answer
A scooter is a great piece of camping equipment!

The 150 should have the grunt you need to haul two people around. The 125 would be fine, too, if there's a difference in price that would make it worth it to you. (I regularly put that much weight on a 50cc scooter with no problems, though I don't take it up to 45 mph.)

Even though it's not a traditional "motorcycle," riders of scooters should take the MSF basic rider course (BRC). The skills you need to operate it safely are the same. I recommend you take the course together. Call 800-446-9227 to find a course near you.
