Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: motorbike safty, mental, hazard

Question
what are the hazards when starting a motorbike

Answer
Unless the bike is a rickety bomb about to go off, there are no real physical hazards at startup. As long as the bike is in neutral and the clutch is squeezed, the bike's not going anywhere until the rider tells it to.

There are mental hazards though.

The rider needs to be prepared to take control of the bike. That means 1) clean and sober, 2) rested, 3) alert, 4) wearing full protective gear, and 5) focused on riding the bike. This means you're not distracted by anything, are fully ready to take over responsibility for the bike, and you put aside the "destination" for the time being and work hard at piloting the bike safely over the road and through traffic.
