Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: Stoping distance and time, suzuki gsxr 750, rolling friction

Question
I am trying to find out how much time and the distance it takes to stop a 2007 Suzuki GSXR 750 if you are going 60mph and if you are going 100mph.  The rider weighs approx 150lbs.
I cannot find any statistics on line.  Thx for your assistance.

Answer
Hello Annie

A very open question, but I found this article that may help:

However as a former Police Motorcycle Instructor I would need toknow more about the question.

Why do you need to know about the braking distances.

For instance in the Uk the average rider is surposed to react as foolows.  At 60 mph they will have travelled 60 feet before even putting the brakes on.  So at 100 mph this will be 100 feet.  That is 100 feet per second.

However, there is a formula that can be used to calculate the stopping distance (in feet) for any speed (in mph).

   * The thinking distance in feet is the speed in mph - at 30 mph, thinking distance is 30 feet.
   * The braking distance in feet is the speed in mph squared, divided by 20 - at 30 mph, the braking distance is 30 * 30 / 20 = 45 feet.
   * So at 30 mph, total stopping distance = 30 + 45 = 75 feet.

To put it another way, total stopping distance in feet is v2 / 20 + v where v is your speed in mph.

Also, we've ignored wind resistance, the effects of poor road surfaces and all rolling friction. So here are the braking figures:

At 15mph
- In 2 seconds at constant speed you will travel   44.0ft
- Your stopping and reaction distance is             19.4ft
- Your margin for error is                                   24.6ft
- Your impact speed is                                       n/a

At 30 mph
- In 2 seconds at constant speed you will travel   88.0ft
- Your stopping and reaction distance is             55.4ft
- Your margin for error is                                 32.6ft
- Your impact speed is                                       n/a

At 45 mph
- In 2 seconds at constant speed you will travel 132.0ft
- Your stopping and reaction distance is             108.0ft
- Your margin for error is                                 23.8ft
- Your impact speed is                                       n/a

At 60 mph
- In 2 seconds at constant speed you will travel   176ft
- Your stopping and reaction distance is             178ft
- Your margin for error is                                 -2.0ft
- Your impact speed is                                       0.6mph

At 75mph
- In 2 seconds at constant speed you will travel   220ft
- Your stopping and reaction distance is             264ft
- Your margin for error is                                 -43.9ft
- Your impact speed is                                       12.5mph

At 90mph
- In 2 seconds at constant speed you will travel   264ft
- Your stopping and reaction distance is             367ft
- Your margin for error is                                 -103ft
- Your impact speed is                                       25.2mph

At 105mph
- In 2 seconds at constant speed you will travel   308ft
- Your stopping and reaction distance is             486ft
- Your margin for error is                                 -178ft
- Your impact speed is                                       38.5mph

Does this help
