Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: Fit & wind noise, helmet fit, wind noise

Question
I have a Scorpion helmet that seems to fit well, tight but comfortable, but there's a lot of wind noise.  Is this typical of all helmets, or are some really quiet.  I measured my head according to the suggested fit instructions and it said to get a medium, but when I tried one on, it squeezed my forehead uncomfortably and felt like it would give me a headache on a long ride.  It doesn't slip when I shake my head back and forth.  Did I get the wrong size?

Answer
Hi Bruce,

All helmets have some amount of wind noise, but there are a few things you can do about it. You can buy a "wind skirt" that fits to the bottom of the helmet and if you don't already I would always wear ear plugs.

The only company I know of that makes exceptionally quiet helmets is Schuberth.

The helmet should be tight but should not squeeze your forehead, did you try the next size up to see what the fit was like? Depending on which model you bought you may be able to get different inner pad fittings that will make the helmet less tight.

Many thanks,

Steve
