Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: impact detection..!!!, accident avoidance, avoidance system

Question
hello sir..
let me go directly to my question.....am doing a project on impact detection in cars....which can be implemented to accident detection....so i just wish to know which part of a car can detect an accidental impact from any part of the vehicle....and which area can the detection system be installed so tat the system is able to detect as well as stay protected from the accidental impact.....
Thank you sir...

Answer
Paul,
Not an easy question to understand the way that you have phrased it but here goes.
To be frank, nowhere. There is no one area that such a system could be installed on a car to detect a possible collision from all angles, there are just too many angles of approach. Although Mercedes, Volvo and BMW have come a long way in designing a system similar to what you describe, we are still a long way off having an "accident avoidance system" in cars, besides which, I would imagine that not only would many motorists complain about the lack of individual control and responsibility for there own vehicle (Think 'Big Brother') but the H.S.E. would have a field day scrutinising such a system to ensure that the system had a safety back-up with a failsafe with a back-up with a failsafe etc.
I hope this goes some way to helping.
