Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: Shifting, motorcycle boots, tennis shoes

Question
Do you have any suggestions as to how to "feel" if you are actually under the shifter with your left foot or not?  When I ride with tennis shoes, no problem.  But when I put my boots on (much safer!) I cannot tell if I am under the shifter or not!

Answer
Paulette - thanks for your question.  I remember having this same issue when I first started riding, or when I changed to a different type of motorcycle boots.

Here's a tip:  When on the bike, with your left foot on the pedal, move your left foot outward (away from the bike) and then back in and up under the shifter.  Watch where the shifter hits your boot.  Then, you'll know approximately where, on your boot, the shifter will land. I think that this is something that gets almost instinctive as you put more miles under your tires.

Ride safe,
Christine
