Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: Wrong year for last question., downshifting, friend thanks

Question
Sorry, Nigel, I put that he had a 1993 vulcan and I should have typed 1998. So the question is:
Since my friend is still insisting that downshifting is safer, could it be that he needs to with his Classic Vulcan 1500 (1998)? He has recently had to replace his gears and I wonder if that's because he slams down a gear to pass. He likes to ride fast - 85 to 100 mph.

Answer
Hello Jane

I have had another think.....I know rare in a man, typing and thinking at the same time....Multitasking...

Where do you ride, in the US I take it, How  long have you been riding, When did you pass you test, Is the Triumph  your first motorbike ?

I always tell my clients that everyone has there own limits and you must always ride within them.  I call it the 'Comfort Zone.'  With this downshifting, does the Triumph react quickly enought FOR YOU without Downshifting.  If so, do you own thing and say to you friend, 'Thanks for the Advice, I will keep in mind',

All the best, let me know how you go on

Regards

Nigel
