Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: What size sport bike to get, gsx r600, honda interceptor

Question
QUESTION: I have been riding cruisers for about 10 yrs now. Currently I have a victory tc (1507cc) and wanted to get a sport bike that would fit me and still get around 45-50 mpg. I am 6ft & 260lbs so small by now means and have been getting overwhelmed by responses from folks trying to push the over 1000cc bikes on me and did not want to go that route because of the mpg.

ANSWER: Greg - I think that there are many possibilities for you - both European and Japanese bikes.  Yamaha, Kawawsaki, Suzuki and Honda all have great sport bikes in the 600 - 750cc displacement range.  BMW has sport bikes - the F800, and R850 would be good choices.  You might also look at the Ducati monster or the Buell.

Take a look at the Honda Interceptor, or the CBR600RR.
Yamaha -YZF-R6, FZ6 or the YZF-R6S - all are very well rated 600cc bikes.

Kawasaki has a new model, the  Versys, which is 649cc as well as two Ninja bikes under 1000cc, and the  ZZR600 is also a great sport bike.

Suzuki - look at the GSX-R750, the GSX-R600, GSX650F and the Katana 750 and 600.

Just as an aside, I traded in my R850 BMW for a 1100, and noted no difference in weight or maneuverability.

Good luck.  You have many, many choices.  I think you will enjoy riding a sport bike.

QUESTION: with you referencing the 600 - 800 range bikes do you think that the nija 250 would at all be an option?

Answer
I would not consider the Ninja 250 as an option - just my opinion.  After riding your Victory, I think you would only be frustrated with such a small bike.  You are going to have minimal power, and would not truly be safe on the highways.  It might be fun for about a week.

Minimally, I would opt for one of the 600 cc bikes.
