Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: Retro-Fit car alarm to a Motorcycle, motorcycle security system, motorcycle alarms

Question
I have a '06 Suzuki Blvd M50 - in the US. I've read a post where a rider retro-fitted the DEI Python 460HP (basic car alarm) to his bike. He praised it for the much louder siren over most all other motorcycle alarms worth every penny.

Is this really possible - assuming I could keep the parts safe from the elements. I've had two bikes stolen with weak sounding motorcycle alarm and Kryptonite (SP?) lock.

What motorcycle alarm would you highly recommend with a loud siren? I intend to add a GPS tracking unit as well.

Thanks!

~ Jeff

Answer
Sure it can be done but that doesn't mean it's going to look pretty. You might do well to shop around some for a m/c specific alarm, they're pretty much the same price...at least for the nice ones.

Sorry I can't claim to know enough to make a recommendation, so I checked with my friends at webbikeworld and found at least a few places to start.

Digital Guardian is a GPS anti-theft tracking device for motorcycles or trailers that includes intrusion detection and perimeter guarding. LoJack is a device that can be activated to transmit the location of a stolen motorcycle.

Some well-reviewed alarm systems are the Talon motorcycle alarm and immobilizer, the Scorpio motorcycle alarm is a FM two-way security system that sends and receives data up to 1/2 mile away, the Kiramek Cyclone alarm is claimed to be the "smallest 'full-featured' motorcycle security system in the world. The Krypton alarm and immobilizer has a voice warning system (UK). Armed Guard systems have portable motorcycle alarms with perimeter sensors available for many different motorcycle brands and models. The Krypton motorcycle alarm has a voice warning system and 125dB siren, a remote starting system and "beep and flash" bike locator system are also available.
