Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: Scooter, 49cc scooter, dl 196

Question
Hello. Can i drive a 49cc scooter when only holding a full driving licence and no actual motorcycle licences. I've had my driving licence for 8 years.

Answer
Dominic, In a word, yes. Anyone in the UK who holds a full driving license for a car (Category D) is also entitled to drive a moped without L plates. This is a quote from the DVLA website ..... " If you obtained your full car license before 1 February 2001 you are automatically entitled to ride a moped without L-plates (D-plates in Wales). If you obtained a full car license after 1 February 2001 you must first complete a CBT course and obtain a DL 196 certificate to validate your entitlement."
Even so, it is still recommended to take CBT or a similar riding course so that your safety is ensured. As long as you follow the advice that is!
