Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: machanical, fuel injection system, money effort

Question
Most small entry level bikes (125-500cc) have carburetors.  I was wondering if you could take it to a shop and have them take it out and replace it with a fuel injection system.

Answer
Most carbed bikes produced within the last 15 or so years are very good at what they do and don't require much work to be kept running well. Only thing aside from maybe synching the carbs when needed is to ride the bike. As long as the bike doesn't sit for more then a couple of weeks you will be fine. If you are going to let the bike sit however buy a bottle of stabil,go to a gas station pour in the bottle of stabil and then top off the tank. Ride around for 10 minutes or so and then your set. The advantage of carbs on a beginners bike is when the carbs as well tuned they are very smooth for on/off throttle transition, don't surge at constant low revs and have much less touchy thottle control then a FI system. I can honestly say i've never heard of a bike being converted from carbs to EFI. It's just not worth the money, effort and hassle when the only main advantage in the end will be easier cold starts.
