Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: weight bearing, triumph rocket iii, production motorcycle

Question
We have purchased a 1985 Honda goldwing limited. The two of us are overweight. h=350, w=240. When we are on the seat together, he feels he is to far forward and shifting is awkward. Is there a way to purchase an extention to the orig seat. maybe take off the trunk and add a longer seat, and are they even made. Will the bike hold us safely, I know it has the suspention adjustments (air). And if this will not work is there a bike that will hold our weight.

Answer
The mind boggles! I don't know if you are in proportion, height to weight, but if not then you have a challenge. Motorcycle control demands a certain level of agility and fitness, even on a bus like the Goldwing. I last rode a Goldwing when they were still sensible - 1984 GL1100.

As for amendments to the stock seat, any of the Goldwing owner sites and lists can probably better answer your question.

If the Wing doesn't do it for you, what about the Triumph Rocket III Classic, which has recently added a driver's back rest, even with a pillion on board. It's the world's biggest production motorcycle with an engine of 2.3 litres! Should be able to pull you along OK.
