Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: brakes, 150cc scooter, hazard detection

Question
ok so i have a 150cc passport it is a little scooter it is fun as all git out
my question for you is this,
in previous posts i have read that you advise that people start with a smaller bike to develop skill, in most you advise that riders start with a 500 to 650cc bike to develop finer skills on the rode. I was wondering if the 150cc scooter can help to develop those skills and to what extent.

Answer
Absolutely. My general 500-650 recommendation is a compromise between a small bike (like a 150) and the typical American wish-list bike like an 1100. In Europe, a 350 is considered a big bike.

I think the Passport is a great bike to learn on. You'll develop handling and control skills, and you'll have enough brain power left over to develop a defensive riding strategy and hazard detection techniques.

Enjoy your ride. In a year or two, you'll reach the limits of what your bike can teach you, and then it may be time to move up. Or then again, maybe not. I myself am shopping for a 150-250 cc bike for getting around town, commuting to work, etc. If you don't have to ride on the highway, you don't need much more than a 250.
